This was the sword used by the Americans in the Mexican War, the Civil War and the Spanish-American War, being the sword carried for over 70 years.

The single-edged blade has a wide groove from ricasso to tip. The entire handle is brass and the cuff is ribbed. The fist is protected by a kidney-shaped hand guard. Made of high carbon steel.

The 1840 NCO sword comes with a steel scabbard.
